How to choose a Muslim camp in the CIS
What to check beyond halal food and religious study: safeguarding, staff, communication and documents.

The word Muslim does not replace due diligence
The word Muslim in a camp’s name does not answer a parent’s most important questions. Before paying, ask for the legal operator, the name of the host facility, the legal basis for the programme, the medical-care process and the written safeguarding rules.
Ask who designs the religious curriculum and who handles questions of fiqh. Find out whether learning is built through conversation and example or through shame, fear and punishment. Discuss phones, photography, personal boundaries, bullying and how a child can report a concern.
For residential camps, check separate accommodation, overnight adult supervision, medical access, staff screening and an emergency parent-contact protocol. For day programmes, also check who may collect the child and how exits from the site are controlled.
Safety, staff and curriculum
Ask how a complaint works from a child's point of view: whom can they approach, is there an adult outside their group, what follows a report of bullying or inappropriate touch, and how is retaliation prevented? 'That never happens here' is weaker than an honest protocol with named roles and response times.
Check ordinary logistics: children per counsellor, toilets and showers, medication storage, allergies and diet, drinking water, heat and ticks, transport, swimming, hikes and photo publication. Organisational maturity is often clearest in these everyday details.
Match promises to the individual child. A first trip, health needs, neurodivergence, severe anxiety, bedwetting or a strict diet require a separate conversation. A responsible organiser does not promise that every child will fit; they explain resources and limits honestly.
The decision before payment
Before paying, obtain the contract, programme, included services, refund rules and emergency contacts. Store the address and operator details separately from the child's phone. Check who actually receives payment and carries legal responsibility for the session.
Our directory includes only programmes for which we found an official organiser or religious-authority page. Inclusion is not a quality mark or safety guarantee: conditions change between sessions and must be checked again immediately before travel.
